This year I'll be turning the big 4 - 0, so I thought it was about time I addressed something that's been bothering me for a while, my fitness and weight,
I'm 5' 10" tall, and weigh 15 stone, or 210 pounds, which gives me a BMI (body mass index) of 30.15, which means that I'm classed as obese and have a higher risk of heart disease, high blood pressure and cancer.
As a Husband, Dad and Grandad, who's not getting any younger, I really want to get fitter and healthier so I can be there for my wife and kids for many years to come. I want to enjoy this time without feeling out-of breath and uncomfortable when we're running around having fun.
As a photographer I can shoot for longer, walk further and faster, and get more unusual angles, if I'm fitter and stronger. Losing weight and getting fitter is a win-win situation, and if I don't make an effort now I probably never will.
My job is quite physical, lifting and moving plenty of stock, but I have to admit that there's always a ready supply of biscuits and cakes whenever we're having a coffee, so that probably doesn't help much, so I can't just rely on working hard to loose the pounds I need to.
I am going to be eating more healthy food, less junk food, and we've set up the running machine in the dinning room so I'll be exercising for at least 15 minutes every day.
My target? To lose at least 2 stone, or 28 pounds, in the next 6 months, so I'll be 13 stone by June. I'll still be overweight, but I will be well on the way to being a much healthier, stronger and fitter Dad, Husband and Photographer.
