I enjoy your podcast. There is another trick that you didn't mention that is loads of fun to try. It allows you to take Macro shots with 'impossible' depth of field. You take multiple images of the exact same composition, but each one is focused on a different area in the scene. Think of it as taking thin 'focus slices' of the scene. You stack the images in Photoshop as separate layers and simply erase the out of focus sections of each layer. If you were careful not to jiggle your camera between shots, the different images should all align perfectly. This leaves an image with more areas in focus - an apparent increase in depth of field. Of course this only works for stationary subjects.
