Some Great Recent Podcasts...

To make the daily commute a little more bearable, there's quite a few Podcasts and I listen to, and I've got to say there's been some corkers recently.

Check out Photonetcast Episode 30, where the boys discuss the relative merits of releasing your photographs under the Creative Commons License, or keeping All Rights Reserved. It made me think long and hard about how many of my images are "borrowed", what I could do to protect them, and how putting my photo's on the Web could jeopardise future sales...

On a releted theme, the excellent new Photolegal Podcast, in Episode 3, addresses the thorny issue of Social Networking when it comes to the sites Terms of Service. Did you know that Flickr (and therefore Yahoo!) have the rights to do whatever they like with the images you upload? Thought not.

It's been a real shame how over the last few months TWiP (This Week In Photography) has changed. The hosts always seem to be talking about the same things - Video on dSLRS's, Huge Panoramas, Alex's never-ending new camera indecision, the editing of the blog (by the way, I've got to scroll across on a 17" monitor, what's up with that!), and Ron's choice of guests to interview is less than riveting. C'mon guys, Ron, lets hear about your Combat Photography, let Steve talk about his photojournalism, and get some great photographers on to interview!

Anyhow's, to replace TWiP why not listen to Scott Bournes new 'cast with Rick Sammon, Photofocus. It's great, just straight q & a, with interesting stories from the hosts.

I'm on a roll now, and I don't want to leave out some of my other favourites - Camera Dojo, The Candid Frame, Thoughts On Photography, and The Digital Story.

I've left out some others, just check out the links on the right of the page, and fill up your mp3 player!

Cheers, Rob.

Hey Rob,

Thanks for reminding me about PhotoLegal. I remember it coming out but was not at the computer to add to iTunes.

I guess I completely forgot about it until you, thankfully, reminded me.

Now I can add it to my subscriptions.

Yeah, TWiP has been "less than focused" lately. I do still rather enjoy it, but I think it's because I like the personalities behind the podcast, but if I were new to them and only heard the past couple of episodes I probably wouldn't stay subscribed.

Funnily enough, I always found Scott to come across as pompous on the show, but I think I'm seeing that he may have added much more value than I originally gave him credit for. Perhaps it was his ability to keep the "gang" focused and on topic.

I guess I'll have to subscribe to his and Rick Sammon's podcast now. They certainly deserve a shot.

I'll still keep TWiP in my subscriptions hoping that they go back to the old format. Otherwise I think they'll need to change the name of the show.

I'm just saying...

Hi Damien,

Good to hear from you! I still listen to TWiP, it'll stay in my subscriptions, just hoping it'll return to form.

I agree with you about Scott, at first I thought he was a bit abrasive, but he's full of good advice and must have been the one keeping them on trrack...

Cheers, Rob.
