Hiya Rob,
Great little podcast introducing painting with light. Light painting with photography is as old a technique as photography is itself and yet never loses it's appeal, plus it's just sheer fun to do!
There's a myriad of methods to it and as you mention many different light sources you can utilise for different effects. Flashes and strobe lights can be used to great effect, flames produce almost etheral results and even a humble pocket torch produces excellent imagery.
The thing I like about it most is that the photographer has complete control over the process without having to rely on camera automation, (especially when used with a cable release and bulb mode). Even a simple film camera can be used but digital does have the advantage of instant previews.
Glad you enjoyed this Rob and great work on passing this method on.
All the best,
Victor
