Photowalk 32 - A Wet Monks Walk

Woof Mk 3Its been raining hard here for the last week, but today I decided to head down to Monks Walk to try and grab a few shots.

It felt good to have the S5700 in action again, but the rain came back and I had to call it a day after about 45 minutes.

This one's for our September "Texture" photo assignment. It's part of some graffiti on a tree, so I got in close and switched to Macro Mode on my Fujifilm.

I stripped the colours out in Photoshop Elements, then played around with Levels Adjustment Layers to increase the contrast. I changed the Levels blend mode to Overlay.

I hid under the trees while the rain came down, then grabbed this one. Added Sepia in Elements, a slight grad to the sky, and a vignette.

I liked the way this little guy seemed to be looking at the camera, though it's a heavy crop and very soft. I pushed the contrast too much - you can see where the whites have blown out on the Sea Gulls head and chest.

Er... ropes. On a tree. Sepia. Not sure why I like it.

I know these abstracts aren't to everyone's taste, but I am drawn to the textures and shapes, and black and white seems the best treatment.

This was a short photowalk, but it was good to get out again with my camera. To be honest I'm really knackered as I write this (and as I was shooting), I didn't get much sleep last night, no. 2 daughter decided to wake us all up a 3.am as she made a racket in the bathroom.... So I'll need a good nights sleep to decide if I like any of these shots.

Cheers, Rob.
