Photowalk 24 - Monks Walk
Tuesday, July 15, 2008 at 1:12PM
I went for a quick Photowalk around Monks Walk, a small woodland area near Priddys Hard, next to the back of Portsmouth Harbour. Now I'm not sure about some of the Black and White conversions I've done on this set, I've added grain and quite a lot of contrast, I'm not completely happy with the process yet, so more practice is required. What do you think?
Deer Taken With Fujifilm S5700, Aperture Priority, F3.5, 1/110th, ISO 800, Focal Length 63.3mm, Hand-held

I was walking along, listening to my Ipod, when I heard some rustling in the underground, louder than the usual birds fluttering around. I crept through the wood, then this guy caught my eye, almost hidden between the trees. I quietly got my camera out, but I had to increase the ISO to 800 because I was zoomed in all the way. This was about the only half-decent shot, all the rest were severely blurred, but it shows that there's wildlife everywhere!
Glade Taken With Fujifilm S5700, Aperture Priority, F13.6, 1/30th, ISO 64, Focal Length 6.3mm, Tripod

This one started off as a HDR, then I tried to give it a sort of Infra-Red Conversion treatment, which I learnt from the Radiant Vista's Photoshop Workbench Podcast. It kinds works, but I'm thinking it needs a tint? Maybe. I used a small aperture, f13.6, so everything would be in focus.
Spore Taken With Fujifilm S5700, Super Macro, Aperture Priority, F3.5, 1/100th, ISO 200, Focal Length 6.3mm, Hand-held

Another b&w treatment, I was trying to emphasize the shape of the subject. At first I liked the noisy background, but now I'm not so sure.
Pole Taken With Fujifilm S5700, Aperture Priority, F3.5, 1/220th, ISO 200, Focal Length 6.3mm, Hand-held

I used Photoshop's "Lens Correction" filter to add a vignette. Another one that started as a HDR, as shown by the odd ghosting in the leaves.
Hill Taken With Fujifilm S5700, Aperture Priority, F3.5, 1/340th, ISO 200, Focal Length 9.7mm, Hand-held

This was the first one I tried an Black and White Infrared conversion on, and it didn't turn out that great. (Don't look at it big!) For better starting images you need a photo with a nice blue sky and bright green foliage. Post coming soon.
Well, that was interesting. At least I did try some black and white conversions - and I liked it, so expect some more (better hopefully) ones.
Thanks, Rob.
PS and It was worth it for the shot of the deer!
