Photowalk 44: Soft, Soft, Soft!
Wednesday, October 22, 2008 at 11:53PM
Had an hour to spare today, and the Sun was shining, so my trusty Fujifilm S5700 and I went for a stroll, hoping to grab some nice photographs.Click here to download the Google Earth .kmz track with embedded photographs.

My apologies for the photo titles, I guess I've got a case of "title burn-out", and also for the softness of most of these pics. Maybe it was too much coffee in the morning, but for some reason lots of them are a bit blurred. I think it's because I was using quite a bit of zoom, and didn't compensate enough with shutter-speed.
I liked the shadow this tree was throwing onto the beach below, and after snapping a few with the tree and the shadow, I kept moving around to find a better angle, settling on this shot of the trunk and the shadow in alignment.
DSCF5207 Taken With Fujifilm S5700, Aperture Priority, F6.8, 1/125th, ISO 64, Focal Length 26mm, Hand-held, Polarizer

It was another day when I was drawn to the details rather than the big picture. I've walked this route enough times, yet I still seem to find the odd scene that catches my eye and calls out for a capture, but I do need to find the time to visit some new locations.
It would have been nice to have some more dramatic clouds behind the bench, so I'll have to watch out for the weather and nip back when there's some "hdr skies". I pondered cloning out the boat masts and the distracting cloud in the bottom right hand corner, but in the end decided to leave them in.
DSCF5210 Taken With Fujifilm S5700, Aperture Priority, F6.8, 1/200th, ISO 64, Focal Length 63mm, Hand-held, Polarizer

This is a shot of a wooden shed built on top of one of the piers, again I was attracted by the shadow on the left hand side, and the lines of the walls.
DSCF5192 Taken With Fujifilm S5700, Aperture Priority, F6.8, 1/150th, ISO 64, Focal Length 39mm, Hand-held.

This one is really out of focus, and I had to stretch it around in Photoshop Elements to reduce perspective distortion, but it still looks like it's leaning over a bit. I like the colours and the shadows though.
DSCF5230 Taken With Fujifilm S5700, Aperture Priority, F3.5, 1/120th, ISO 400, Focal Length 33mm, Hand-held.

Some detail from a fence, I liked the little plant poking its head through.
Not Much Room Down Here! Taken With Fujifilm S5700, Super Macro, Aperture Priority, F3.5, 1/1000th, ISO 100, Focal Length 6mm, On The Ground.

Maybe the sharpest shot of the day - probably because I wasn't touching the camera!
A nice walk, but I was too lazy with the sharpness of my photographs. Slap on the wrist, won't make that mistake next time!
Cheers, Rob.
